The Design Story
The Design Story
The design of the ROHN Shirt 1 pulls from three eras: 1500s India, 1970s American design, and 1990s workwear fabrics.
The artwork is inspired by a bedsheet hanging in the Museum of Gujarat from the 1500s — the moment I saw it, it just scratched an itch in my brain. It was beautiful, and I knew I wanted to create something with it.
The collar takes cues from 1970s American shirting — I’ve always loved the drama an exaggerated collar can bring to a piece.
The fabric is 100% duck cloth, the kind used in the greatest workwear jackets ever made. I wanted this shirt to age gracefully, and nothing fades more beautifully than true workwear fabric.
The idea for the Blank Shirt came from my love of minimalist style.
A great minimal garment gets three things right: Fit, Fabric, and Flow.
While designing the embroidered ROHN Shirt, I obsessed over all three — and during sampling, I found myself falling in love with the clean, unembellished version.
And that’s how the Blank ROHN Shirt was born.
The Care Instructions
The Care Instructions
Machine Wash Cold with Like Colors
Tumble Dry Low
Aging Notes — Duck Cloth
- Washed Often (once every 2-3 wears): Softens quickly, fades evenly
- Washed Sparingly (once every 7-8 wears): Maintains shape longer, develops richer patina and high-contrast wear
I personally think washing this sparingly is the move. The rich patina this piece will develop over time is so sick.
